Dear Colleagues,

As I send my final IGCS President’s message, I would first like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to have served you over the past two years. I am honored to be a part of this great Society and enthusiastically anticipate what lies ahead for all of us as we continue to live out its mission to enhance the care of women with gynecologic cancer worldwide through education, training and public awareness.

This week we are expecting over 2,400 attendees at our 16th Biennial Meeting in beautiful Lisbon, Portugal. As you know, our Biennial Meeting provides the most current gynecologic oncology information including innovative developments in surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and clinical trial updates. The unique education IGCS delivers draws upon expertise throughout the world and has become increasingly multi-disciplinary as we discuss psycho-social, socio-economic and sexual aspects of gynecological cancer care, as well as palliative and end-of-life care. The meeting’s mobile app containing abstracts, the program schedule, speaker information and e-posters is may be downloaded by visiting the app store from your mobile device and searching for “IGCS 2016.”

Members, please note that the 2016 Business Meeting will be held in Lisbon on Sunday, October 30th from 12:20 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in room AUD I of the Convention Center. The agenda can be downloaded here.

I am thrilled to announce that the much anticipated, newly designed IGCS website is launched. The new igcs.org reveals many enhancements that I am confident you will find useful and helpful. Visitors will find informative content about the diseases we treat and prospective members will find an easy-to-use, interactive membership application to help us connect other gynecologic oncology professionals. The website also shines a “spotlight” on IGCS members’ personal stories to help us to learn about each other and stay connected from afar. Furthermore, the IGCS Education Committee is working to identify and prepare educational resources and opportunities for learning, which will be available on the website in the very near future. Once the Biennial Meeting is complete, a host of new content will become available.

Please explore igcs.org now to explore the features and become acquainted with the new IGCS site. Those of you who need to pay dues for 2017 will receive a separate email with your new member username, password and instructions on how to submit your membership dues for 2017 renewal. I encourage those of you attending the Biennial Meeting to stop by the IGCS exhibit booth and visit with our staff, learn more about your member benefits and have your photograph taken for the new on-line membership directory.

During my Presidential Address in Lisbon, I look forward to sharing more information regarding additional new initiatives our Society will be implementing to expand our reach and deepen our positive impact within the global gynecologic cancer community. We have much to look forward to as we continue to evolve and grow together.

In closing, I wish to thank all the leaders of IGCS I have had the privilege to work with over the last several years, the staff for always giving more than what is asked of them and to all of you, the members of IGCS who are so committed to caring for women with gynecologic malignancies.

I look forward to seeing many of you in Lisbon.

Richard R. Barakat, MD
2014-2016 IGCS President
